October 1863: Joseph Noel Paton and The Glasgow Art Union – “The evils of slavery and the slave-trade”

A short paragraph from The Scotsman is on page two of The Cumberland & Westmorland Advertiser;

Penrith & Lake District Chronicle (Cumberland and Westmorland Advertiser, and Penrith Literary Chronicle,

in The British Newspaper Archive), on Tuesday the 27th of October, 1863,  and reads:

“The evils of slavery and the slave-trade have been powerfully set forth by Mr. Noel Paton in a

series of five designs for the Glasgow Art Union. We understand Mr. Paton is about to leave

Edinburgh for some time, to execute for Her Majesty, at Windsor, a picture in memoriam of the

late lamented Prince Consort.”
