October 1879: “The School of Art needlework in Glasgow is now fairly open and at work”

A short notice in “THE LADIES COLUMN: BY ONE OF THEMSELVES.”, on page three of the Leicester Chronicle and The

Leicestershire Mercury (Leicester Chronicle, in The British Newspaper Archive), on Saturday the 25th of October, 1879, reads:

“The School of Art needlework in Glasgow is now fairly open and at work, under the management of Miss Lee, from South Kensington.

An exhibition of ancient and modern needlework, lent for the purpose by private owners and the South Kensington Museum, was opened

on the last day of September. It contains many curious and beautiful specimens of the art in past and present times.”
