October 1908: “A Valuable Relic” – Medal Designed by the Late Sir Noel Paton

A short article, on page three of the Daily Record & Mail (Daily Record, in The British Newspaper Archive), on

Monday the 5th of October, 1908, reads:

 

A VALUABLE RELIC. 

 

Lord Provost Sir William Bilsland, Glasgow, has been made the recipient of one of the medals issued, with the approval

of the late Queen Victoria, about thirty years ago in commemoration of the coming of age of the Volunteer movement. The

donor is Mr. Neil McPhail, who was engraver to her late Majesty. His Lordship has presented the medal, which was designed

by the late Sir Noel Paton, to the Kelvingrove Art Galleries.”
