September 1905: New Monkland Parish Church Memorial Window – “The Good Samaritan” – On Display at William Meikle and Sons, Wellington Street

An article on page five of The Glasgow Herald, on Tuesday the 5th of September, 1905, reads:

“NEW MONKLAND PARISH CHURCH—

MEMORIAL WINDOW.

Messrs Wm. Meikle & Sons, Wellington Street, Glasgow, are now exhibiting a memorial window

which is about to be placed in the chancel of New Monkland Parish Church. It is gifted by Mr R.

B. Tennent, of Coatbridge, in memory of his father, the late Dr Tennent, ex-Provost of Airdrie.

The subject of the window is ‘The Good Samaritan,’ and the work is carried out without any surface

pigment in a new process, introduced by Messrs Meikle and their artist Mr J. T. Stewart. Excellent

results are obtained by this process. The composition of the subject is skilful, and is rendered in a

decorative manner, and the masses of pure translucent colour are harmoniously placed, as well as of

beautiful texture and quality. The window will be on view until Saturday next.”
