The Golden Age of Glasgow’s Art Trade: 1856 – John and Richard Edmiston Have Commenced Business as Auctioneers
An advertisement on the front page of The Glasgow Herald, on Monday the 8th of September, 1856, reads:
“J. & R. EDMISTON,
AUCTIONEERS AND VALUATORS.
JOHN EDMISTON (Late with Messrs. Hutchison & Dixon,
Auctioneers), and
RICHARD EDMISTON (Late with George Wink, Esq.,
Accountant),
HAVE COMMENCED BUSINESS as AUCTIONEERS and
VALUATORS at 33 Buchanan Street.”
