The Early History of Glasgow’s Egyptian Halls, in Union Street: March 1870 – Application to Take Down Existing Buildings, and Erect a New One
A report on the petitions passed by Glasgow’s Dean of Guild Court, on Thursday the 31st of March, 1870, was published on
page four of The Glasgow Herald, on Friday the 1st of April. It includes the following:
“James Henderson Robertson, sometime iron manufacturer in Glasgow, now residing at Mulberry Bank, near Glasgow, to
take down and remove the present buildings fronting Union Street, Glasgow, and erect on site thereof a four-storey building,
with basement or sunk floor and attics, to be used as a shop and warehouses.”
