The Early History of Glasgow’s Egyptian Halls, in Union Street: June 1872 – George Ballantine & Son – Opening of “Their New and Extensive Premises, Forming Part of that Elegant Building in Union Street”
An advertisement on page four of The Advertiser for Airdrie, Coatbridge, Bathgate, Wishaw, and West Calder (Airdrie and
Coatbridge Advertiser, in The British Newspaper Archive), on Saturday the 22nd of June, 1872, informed readers that George
Ballantine & Son, Tea Dealers, had opened:
“NEW AND EXTENSIVE PREMISES,
FORMING PART OF THAT
ELEGANT BUILDING IN UNION STREET, GLASGOW,”
It was next to the Daily Mail office. “… induced, by the Extent and Suitableness of the Premises”, Ballantine and Son were able
to combine the business of Wine Merchants.
