The Early History of Glasgow’s Egyptian Halls, in Union Street: November 1872 – “New Buildings in Glasgow”
On Friday the 22nd of November, 1872, The Glasgow Herald has, on page four, an article headed
“NEW BUILDINGS IN GLASGOW.” It includes:
“In Union Street, a large block of warehouses and shops has been completed, and is partly tenanted on
the ground flat. The building has an extensive frontage, and is built according to the designs of Mr Alex.
Thomson. It is an exceedingly imposing edifice, and is regarded as one of the finest specimens of the
Egypto-Greek style.”
