The Golden Age of Glasgow’s Art Trade: August 1849 – Allan and Ferguson, 70 Buchanan Street – Pictures for Private Sale

An advertisement on the front page of The Glasgow Chronicle, on Wednesday the 15th of

August, 1849, reads:

 

“THE FINE ARTS.

 

THE Subscribers beg to inform Connoisseurs, and the

admirers of the Fine Arts, that they have now on view

for Private Sale, a very few excellent PICTURES, by

Ancient and Modern Masters, the greater part of which

have been collected in London and on the Continent.

 

In order to avoid unnecessary trouble and waste of time,

the prices asked will be strictly moderate, and no abatemement

made.
