The Golden Age of Glasgow’s Art Trade: December 1860 – John and James Morrison Open New Premises at 80 Renfield Street, in Addition to Their Premises at 11 Virginia Street
An advertisement on page five of the Glasgow Examiner, on Saturday the 29th of December,
1860, reads:
“THE CROWN SALE HALLS,
80 Renfield Street.
MESSRS JOHN & JAMES MORRISON
BEG to announce that, in addition to their present Premises,
11 VIRGINIA STREET, they have been induced, by the increasing
requirements of their Business, to erect the
MOST EXTENSIVE SUITE OF AUCTION HALLS
IN SCOTLAND
(a portion of which is now ready for occupation),
in this rapidly rising locality, and trust the extent of accommodation
afforded, when completed, will enable them to exhibit to more advantage
than heretofore the Goods entrusted to their charge for Sale, by Auction,
and secure continuance of the support already so liberally accorded them.
In addition to the Several Large Sale Halls, they intend also erecting Well-
Lighted, Dry Stores, specially designed for the Storage of House Furniture and
other Effects.”
