The Importance of Exhibition History: James Elder Christie, “Suffer Little Children to Come unto Me” Part B

A short and interesting mention of Christie’s painting is on page 630 (page 19, in The British Newspaper Archive) of

Black and White, in the ‘SOME PICTURES’ column, on Saturday the 14th of November, 1896, and reads:

“Readers of Black and White have already had occasion to admire the art of J. E. Christie.

It is to be hoped they will have an opportunity ere long of seeing in London his Suffer Little

Children to Come unto Me, now on show at the Sun Gallery, of Van Baerle Brothers, in Glasgow.

Glasgow is a long way from London, but the man who sees this and the other pictures by Mr.

Christie will be fully repaid for the journey.”
