A short article on page four of The Glasgow Herald, on Wednesday the 25th of January, 1865, reads:
“TOLLCROSS SCIENTIFIC ASSOCIATION. – On Monday evening last, John Stuart, Esq., Glasgow, delivered a lecture in
Fullarton School Room, on “Photography.” There was a large attendance. The lecturer described all the various processes
and uses to which photography was applied, and afterwards a number of portraits were taken with the electric and
magnesium lights. These were exhibited to the audience by means of a powerful magic lantern. A hearty vote of thanks
was awarded Mr. Stuart for his instructive and successful lecture.”
