An article on page seven of The Glasgow Herald, on Friday the 6th of April, 1923, reads:

A matinee in aid of the Music Hall Artists’ Benevolent Fund will be held in the Empire
Theatre, Glasgow, on Tuesday, May 1. Mr Crossley Taylor, Alhambra; Mr Kirkpatrick,
Pavilion; Mr Richardson, Empire; and Mr Lewis, Coliseum, are co-operating with a view
to making the matinee a success. The proceeds will go towards the building of a new
wing at the Brinsworth Home for old and indigent music hall artists. The following
leading figures in the profession have agreed to contribute to the programme: – Will
Fyfe, Harry Weldon, Mike S. Whallen, G. S. Melvin, Frederick Bentley, and Elsie Bower.
As most of the Glasgow halls will have variety programmes for that week, it is expected
that the entertainment will consist of about 20 turns.”
