April 1929: Playing for a Mission Hospital – Nessie Knight Dramatic Club – J. M. Barrie’s “The Little Minister”, at the Lyric Theatre

An article on page eight of The Glasgow Herald, on Monday the 29th of April, 1929, reads:

PLAYING FOR A MISSION HOSPITAL

The performance of ‘The Little Minister’ by the Nessie Knight Dramatic Club in the

Lyric Theatre, Glasgow, last week in aid of the Sulenkama Mission Hospital, South

Africa, was widely supported and highly appreciated. In response to demands it has

been decided to give an extra performance, and that will take place to-morrow

evening in the Lyric Theatre. Two gentlemen who attended last week have each sent

a donation of £50. As previously stated, Miss Nessie Knight, who is the leading lady

in the production, is the wife of Dr Paterson, the mission doctor, and she is taking

this means prior to joining her husband in South Africa of raising funds for the

new hospital which is in course of erection at the Sulenkama Mission Station.”
