August 1930: Naomi Jacob – Plays – “Mary of Delight” and “The Dawn”

An article on page five of the Milngavie and Bearsden Herald and Dumbarton County Courier, With which is

incorporated the “Maryhill Herald” (Milngavie and Bearsden Herald, in The British Newspaper Archive), on

Friday the 22nd of August, 1930, reads:

MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS.

A further addition to the many plays written regarding the romantic career of Mary Queen of Scots is to be found in the short

one-act, ‘Mary of Delight,’ which has been written by Naomi Jacobi [sic], and which was recently performed for the first time

by the Masque Theatre players in Edinburgh. The play, which met with a very successful reception, is to be broadcast from

Scottish stations at the end of this month under the production of Mr. T. P. Maley, Milngavie. Miss Jacob is the author of ‘The

Dawn,’ a play portraying a rather idealised Prince Charlie, which has been broadcast on one or two occasion [sic]. It is interesting

to note that Miss Jacob is of Jewish extraction herself. One of the striking tributes she received after the broadcast of  ‘The Dawn’

came from a minister at Ericksay, who congratulated the playwright on her excellent work. His commendation was written from a

place within a few yards of where Prince Charlie made his historic landing.”
