December 1869: “Hengler’s Cirque, Glasgow – The Spectacle of Cinderella”

On Saturday the 18th of December, 1869, the Renfrewshire Independent published an article on page five, relating to Hengler’s production of Cinderella in Glasgow. The show had been presented “last season” in Liverpool, and the article includes a substantial review from the “Liverpool Daily Post of December 28th, 1868”.

Among the comments from the Liverpool newspaper is the following:

“Of course, it will be understood that the whole piece is enacted by signs, or nearly so, if we except the Witch (Mr Myers), who gives

a few oral directions to Cinderella (Miss Maude Hengler).
