February 1916: Cranston’s Picture House – Nearing Completion

A short, and interesting, article on page 501 (page 71 in The British Newspaper Archive) of The Bioscope, on Thursday the

3rd of February, 1916, reads:

Nearing Completion.

The new cinema which is being erected in connection with Cranston’s tea-rooms in Glasgow, and which will be known as

Cranston’s Picture House, is rapidly nearing completion, and the work will soon be far enough advanced to allow of the

date of opening being fixed. The interior of the picture-house part of the premises is practically finished, and on looking

over the building the other day I noticed that the domed roof is also taking shape. It is intended that the new house shall

be opened by the beginning of April.
