March 1915: Proposed New Glasgow Cinema – Renfield Street – Demolition of Building – Stuart Cranston
There are times when information about developments in Glasgow can be found in the most unexpected places.
An article on page two of The Sheerness Times & General Advertiser (Sheerness Times Guardian, in The British
Newspaper Archive), on Saturday the 13th of March, 1915, reads:
“PROJECTED NEW GLASGOW CINEMA.
Preliminary operations are now in progress for the demolition of the building at Renfield Street, Glasgow, upon which Messrs.
Stuart, Cranston, Ltd., propose to erect a new and up-to-date picture theatre. The promoters of this enterprise intend to push
ahead with operations as quickly as possible.”
There is a mistake, as the newspaper separates “Stuart” and “Cranston” with a comma.
